We’re at the midpoint of Shifting.
I resonated deeply with this comment from one of our members in the survey last week, “I have three kids and a full time job outside the home. Sewing is my favorite hobby, but I don't always have time for the actual sewing. Planning, reflecting, daydreaming about sewing also counts... Making, Again prompts those actions, and then I don't feel bad about that I can't sew a new project every month.”
This is so true, and even th ough my machine has been quieter than usual, my planning, reflecting and daydreaming about sewing has been in full swing.
I’m heading to Japan soon to host a retreat for other sewists and as I’ve been exploring The Wear Experiment in the Playbook to help me pack.
I’ve been enjoying curating a me-made travel capsule, considering each piece and asking: do I love this enough to pack it?
Looking at The Wear Experiment, I’ve been thinking how each item can:
be worn in different ways
be layered up or down if needed
change with accessories
suit the weather and the activities
Instead of puling everything out of my wardrobe and making a mess, I’ve been playing with the Indyx app by putting different outfits together and making a packing list. Ultimately I want my clothes to earn their place in the precious suitcase space so I have more luggage allowance for fabric on the return trip!
Looking at what I’ve pulled together so far, it feels like a pretty good summary of what Shifting is actually about in practice.
