What an amazing post. Your impressions of change and what that means were so thoughtfully written. Thank you for sharing your journey, it means I am not alone. My journey is that of being 71 years old and always calculating how much time do I probably have left on the earthly journey. To be in the moment is my intention every day.

May you have a very blessed New Year.💞

Hi Scarlet. I agree, and not that much different. Though I would add one point for consideration . When I look at my fabric stash … there is no way I can leave until i am 132.

I’d love to know more about your ‘customer’. I assumed that most independent designers were designing for a particular aesthetic or mindset - one that they shared, as opposed to an age demographic or body type. Did you deliberately go after an older, curvier customer base or do you think that group simply responded to something they liked in your designs?

Great question Donna! When I started designing for In the Folds, I think I started out with a more generic idea of who I was designing for - a reflection of who I saw sewing on Instagram at the time. But over time, I realised that the customer who was attracted to ITF and really understood and appreciated the aesthetic was a bit older and therefore in a different season of life. I also think the younger sewists are more about sewing quick wins and pieces that are more on trend, while with my designs I aim for them to sit outside of trends. I think this naturally attracts an older customer who wants to look good, without looking trendy. I think the skill-building aspect of what I do also attracts a particular customer. They need time and patience and are likely sewing for more than just new pieces in their wardrobe.

Maybe you were always closer that woman than you thought, but now you are allowing yourself more time and space to inhabit her.

That's a lovely way of looking at it!
