Making, Again FAQs
Making, Again is your invitation to slow down and deepen your connection to sewing clothes. Rather than offering set projects, patterns or tutorials, we will explore a series of experiments and prompts to encourage curiosity, reflection, and care. With no deadlines or pattern limitations, you have the space to pause and consciously consider your makes. Join us as we experiment alongside you, offering prompts, a downloadable Playbook, access to a private podcast and a community space to support each other in making, again.
You can read more about it here.
Who is Making, Again for?
Making, Again is for you if:
You feel disconnected from making, even though you love it and would like to make time and space for it
You’re tired of rushing projects or chasing outcomes
You want support and structure, but not pressure
You miss curiosity, play, or ease in your creative work
It’s especially supportive if your life, body, or capacity has changed and you need a little nudge to get making, again.
How does it work?
Every six weeks, we will begin a new Slow Sewing Experiment together.
Paid subscribers will receive:
Downloadable Playbook detailing the current experiment with reflections, prompts and Making Experiments
Exclusive podcast chats between Emily and Courtney at the beginning and end of each theme as they discuss their own approach and findings
Weekly newsletter check-ins to gently support you through the experiments
Optional access to a private Facebook group where makers can share progress, questions and insights
There are no deadlines, no rules, and nothing you have to sew. You can make a whole garment, a small sampler, do some mending, or simply follow your curiosity.
These check-ins aren’t deadlines, they’re touchpoints. Soft moments of connection designed to help you weave making back into your daily life.
How much is it?
New subscribers receive a 7 day free trial.
After your trial ends, you will be charged $15 AUD per month to continue access to exclusive paid features of Making, Again.
You can join any time and cancel at any time.
Is this a membership?
Yes, Making, Again is a paid subscription membership hosted on Substack. Your subscription gives you ongoing access to all Making, Again content, including the slow sewing experiments, weekly newsletters, podcast episodes, downloadable Playbooks, and the option to join the private community.
There’s no fixed end point or requirement to keep up, so you can participate at your own pace while your subscription is active. New members can trial it for free for 7 days and you can cancel anytime.
Is this a sewing course?
No it isn’t and that’s intentional.
Making, Again isn’t about teaching specific techniques or completing a particular garment. It’s about how you sew, not what you sew.
How much time does it take?
As much or as little time as you have.
Some people might spend:
10 minutes reading a prompt and reflecting
An afternoon revisiting a familiar pattern
A few weeks slowly exploring an idea
An hour or two each week to build rhythm and consistency
There’s no minimum time commitment and no expectation to “finish” anything.
How long does each experiment in Making, Again run for?
Each theme will continue for 6 weeks, although you can join at any time.
You don’t need to keep pace with anyone else. You can pause, revisit, or repeat the exercises whenever it suits you.
How is this different from Curated by ITF?
Curated was a monthly project subscription with set patterns, skills, and outcomes.
Making, Again is slower, lighter, and more open-ended.
Instead of being given a project, you’re supported to choose what feels right for you - based on your life, your body, your season, and your energy.
It’s less about producing, more about reconnecting with the practice of making in a way that is sustainable and manageable for you.
Do I need any special tools or materials?
No, you’ll work with what you already have. It could be patterns you’ve made before, fabric in your stash, skills you already know, curiosity you already carry… and when you need something new it will be added with thought and intention.
If you do decide to make something new, that choice comes from you, not from the program.
Will I receive any sewing patterns?
No. This is not a pattern subscription. We do sell patterns on our website if you’d like to purchase any from In the Folds. Members of Making, Again are welcome to use ANY BRAND sewing patterns from their stash or even draft your own. We want to encourage freedom and play, not limitations.
Is there community interaction?
Yes, but it’s optional. There’s space to share reflections, photos, questions, or half-formed thoughts. There’s also space to simply read along and keep your experience private.
You don’t need to post, comment, or show progress to “participate”. If you do want to participate in conversations in the community platform, we will be there to support you, answer questions and gently guide you.
What community platform are you using?
We’ll be using a private Facebook group for the Making, Again community.
We know Facebook isn’t for everyone, and we want to be upfront about that. We spent a lot of time weighing up different platforms before deciding on this.
We chose Facebook to simplify and lower the barrier to entry. It means fewer logins to remember, fewer platforms to check, and an easier way to dip in and out when life allows.
From our side, it also allows us to focus our time and energy on creating thoughtful content and holding the space well, rather than managing and maintaining a more complex platform.
If Facebook isn’t right for you, that’s completely okay. All core Making, Again materials are delivered outside the group, through Substack, and participation in the community is always optional.
What if I fall behind?
You can’t.There’s nothing to catch up on, and nothing to complete on time. Making, Again meets you where you are - even if that’s stopping and starting, or doing less than you expected.
