Ready to start Making, again?
After years of managing, producing and planning, we wanted to make room to play again in our sewing practice.
Many of us have the desire, patterns, fabric and more skills than we give ourselves credit for. And yet we still find ourselves thinking: I don’t know what to make next or I can’t start until I learn more?
Together, we’ll respond to what this community needs right now, not with promises or perfection, but with presence, process and play.
For many of us, it can feel risky to try and “fail” when time is precious. Fitting can stall us. Body changes can freeze us. The fear of ruining a project can be enough to stop us finishing at all.
The intention is there, but the permission to begin, or begin again, often isn’t.
What if we let ‘making’ be the teacher and sewing be the self-care you crave? What if you had the support of other makers doing it alongside you?
That’s where Making, Again comes in.
This isn’t another sewing course, endless sewing patterns or a tutorial series. It’s a series of slow, low-pressure experiments designed to reconnect us with sewing through curiosity and care, without pressure or overwhelm. Together, we’ll explore what we truly want to make, what we love to wear, and how to sew in a way that feels grounded and intentional.
No set patterns. No deadlines. No pressure. You’re welcome to use ANY sewing patterns and are not limited to In the Folds patterns.

Who is it for?
Making, Again is for makers who want to slow down and reconnect with their creativity. It’s for anyone who wants to connect with sewing in a way that feels personal, grounded and intentional, whether you’ve been sewing for decades or are just beginning.
It’s for anyone who’s felt burned out by productivity culture, tired of chasing the next project, or disconnected from the joy of making.
It’s for people whose lives or bodies have changed, whose wardrobes no longer quite fit, or who want to make clothes that suit who they are now.
It’s for anyone who values community, thoughtful conversation, shared learning, and the feeling of being seen in the process of making, not just in the finished piece.
It’s for anyone who’s felt stuck in thoughts like:
“I can’t start until I learn how to fit this.”
“My body has changed and I don’t know what suits me now.”
“I don’t want to waste my limited time on something that might fail.”
It’s for people who want:
a calmer, clearer way back into making
guidance that’s accessible and easy to return to
community that values the process, not just the finished result
How Making, Again works
Every six weeks, we will begin a new Slow Sewing Experiment together.
There are no deadlines, no rules, and nothing you have to sew. You can make a whole garment, a small sampler, do some mending, or simply follow your curiosity.
These check-ins aren’t deadlines, they’re touchpoints. Soft moments of connection designed to help you weave making back into your daily life.
What this is (and isn’t)
This isn’t a course or a tutorial series. It’s not a sew-along for one specific garment or a sewing pattern. It’s not restricted to In the Folds patterns. And it’s not about learning more before you begin. It’s about starting, exactly where you are right now.
It’s an experiment, a living, evolving space to reawaken curiosity and creativity, for us as much as for you.
We’ll make room for the messy middle. For trying things that don’t work. For learning by doing. For returning to your sewing machine with less pressure and more trust.
And because starting alongside others can be powerful, we’ll offer gentle structure and shared rhythm, so you don’t have to do it alone.
What is a Making Experiment?
A Making Experiment is a small, low-stakes creative exploration. A gentle step between noticing and making. Each mini experiment reflects the theme we’re thinking about during that stage of the process. It might be trying a familiar pattern in a new fabric, testing a proportion, making a quick sample, sketching a variation, or simply noticing how a garment behaves when worn.
They are designed to teach you something about what you like to make, what you enjoy wearing, and how you want your wardrobe to evolve. You’ll be offered a few options and can choose one that inspires you, keeping things manageable and meaningful.
This is not about perfection or productivity, but curiosity, growth and sewing in a way that feels grounded and intentional.

About Us
Emily is a trained Pattern Maker and Fashion Designer, and has been sewing for as long as she can remember. She founded In the Folds in 2015 with a simple intention: to help makers create garments they’ll actually wear, love and return to again and again.
After recently bringing the monthly membership Curated by In the Folds to a close, Emily is leaning into a slower, simpler way of making; one that leaves room for curiosity, reflection and change.
Making, Again is part of that shift. A space to reconnect with creativity, to make thoughtfully, and to explore what feels right now. Emily hopes it will bring the joy back to her own making, and perhaps result in a few pieces that feel like her, and work for her current season of life as a mum.
Courtney works alongside Emily at In the Folds and caught the sewing bug a few years ago. Her obsession can lead to overwhelm and project paralysis. She is hoping Making, Again will help her find more clarity, slow down and enjoy the process of creating her me-made capsule wardrobe.
