We’re in week five of ‘Returning’. Which means, statistically speaking, life has probably got in the way.

Maybe you’ve made something. Maybe you’ve thought about making something. Maybe you haven’t even downloaded the Playbook. And that’s ok.

Making, Again is never about finishing a garment by a particular date or working through every prompt in order. It’s about returning. And returning can’t be rushed.

Sometimes it happens at the machine. Sometimes it happens while you’re folding laundry and find yourself thinking about a pattern you love. Sometimes it doesn’t happen at all this week. That’s okay too.

Returning isn’t about momentum or finishing. It’s about coming back to something familiar and staying with it long enough to see what meets you there now.

When you return to something you’ve made before, it can feel easy. Familiar. Almost automatic.

But it can also feel different.

You might move more slowly. Make different decisions. Feel more confident, or less certain. Notice things you used to rush past.

Or feel resistance.

That’s part of returning too.

I had one of these moments recently when I returned to invisible zips. I’ve sewn plenty over the years, but never really felt confident with them. The instructions always said to use an invisible zipper foot, and for a long time I ignored that. I didn’t want to buy another tool. I was determined to make it work without it.

And I could, sort of. But it was always a bit hit and miss.

This time, I gave in and bought the foot.

It completely changed the experience. Everything felt easier, more precise, less frustrating. And for the first time, my invisible zips were actually invisible. A small shift, but one that changed how I felt about the whole process.

That’s the thing about returning. It’s not just repeating. It’s meeting something familiar with who you are now.
